vSAN its the little things!
To be fair some of my posts have been absent of late as it has yet again been a very busy year!
Whilst rebuilding the lab though I did want to just highlight one update in VCF 9 or rather one I have noticed since upgrading to full VCF especially moving to 9.0.1
I had to move some patching and this forced me to do a full shutdown as I also wanted to move some power too and I went to use the latest shutdown wizard and there are now some more checks within this. Firstly the system checked for any non core VMs still being powered on within the vSAN cluster
Once the system is happy this has been performed you now get the following screen, once you hit the tick box stating you are happy you can progress with the wizard. I do also like the fact it lets you know where the vCenter is located so you can note this host down to monitor the bring up operations rather than going to manually check this yourself
Again the next screen just reiterates this and confirms you may see some of the pages go offline
The final confirmation screen just summaries your actions and of course allows you to input a reason for tracking if required
You can now monitor the shutdown activities and this also make powering down a lab environment so much easier
So what happens once you have performed your updates. Simply power the hosts back on and head over to the host you noted above. If all has gone to plan you will see this screen first
Once all the hosts can communicate you will get the following
After a period of time you will see all your core VMs get re-established and your vCenter will come online
One thing to note is things will be running but you do still need to head back into the vSAN configuration pane to finalise the bring up
You should now see the following screen you can monitor
If all has gone to plan you should see everything back to green and the following information box
